This project reimagines the plastic one-time use water bottle. Bambu is a 100% compostable water bottle made of highly compacted bamboo that can be reused instead of thrown away. There is a colored dot on the inside of the bottle that changes from blue to red once the bottle has reached the end of its life. When that happens, just drop the bottle off at one of the many compost ready bins at Blue Bottle Coffee (where Bambu can be found) for shredding and composting.

“Each bottle of Bambu is bottled from the freshest mountain spring water from the summit of Mount Fuji, the highest mountain in Japan, on the island of Honshu. Each bottle was made from recycled, highly compacted bamboo. Our mission is to reduce the plastic waste of one-time use water bottles by using bamboo, which is both very strong and easy to grow in very large quantities. Each Bambu bottle can be reused and refilled several times before it can be composted. When finished with your bottle, save it, and drop it off at participating locations for composting (scan QR code for details). For each bottle purchased, 10% of the proceeds go toward providing impoverished people around the globe with sustainable and clean drinking water.”
